Regals that "Look Right"
Most people will agree that some vehicles just "look right". Of course this is a very subjective matter, many owners cherish preserved vehicles that others would not give house-room to. In this page I unashamedly give preference to some of my favourite Regals.
In the days when bus and coach companies ordered vehicles in ones and twos and specified their own body-builder, the Regals sported a very wide variety of bodies. Some probably seemed out of date even on delivery, some dated quickly, while a few have stood the test of 50 years or more and still look outstanding today.

Rescued from Derelict!

This immaculate 1948 Strachan-bodied Regal III was found virtually derelict on a farm near Llandudno, and has been fully restored by Quantock Motor Services in Somerset. |

JFM 575, emerges newly restored in April 2006. (See the Regal III page for a larger version of this photo).
Alan Bond of Quantock says (29th April 2006): "JFM 575 dispatched to Llandudno 1300 hrs 27th April. Safely arrived with a trouble free run apart from a slight weep on a fuel connection. Fuel consumption appears to be in the region of 17 mpg - Gardner fans eat your hearts out - and she pulls like a steam train. Along with LFM 302 and KFM 893 she will be at the Llandudno Festival of Transport at Bodafon Fields over this weekend." |

The chassis no. is 6821A198, denoting it is powered by the 7.7 litre engine coupled to a crash box.

| Photographed in about 2000 before restoration commenced. It makes you realise what an excellent restoration this is! |

Oxford Willowbrook Regals
The Oxford livery always looked smart, and this picture of 2 immaculate Regals visiting the Willowbrook coachworks factory in 1975 are 2 of my favourite photos. At that time the buses were 25 and 26 years old, but they look as though they are just leaving the works for the first time.

OJO 727, a 1950 Regal III, chassis 9621A1217, with Willowbrook DP32F body (50779), is privately preserved in Oxford and has been with the same owner since 1972.
Sold in 1963 to Burnett's Motors, Mintlaw, Aberdeen as No.20. Still with them in 1966 when they were taken over by Alexander (Northern). It then became No. NA106 and was withdrawn Sept 1972, when it was bought for preservation by Grahame Wareham |
